On September 14th, Nintendo released another one of their Directs to the public, and yet again decided to be the real madmen out there. First I'll start with the big headlines, the major "Holy Canolies", then list everything revealed, all in order. Then, I'll give my "Top Highlight", a little extra nugget for a game I'm really excited about.
The "Wowie Zowies"!
Splatoon 3: Side Order DLC
I have no earthly idea what happened to Inkopolis Square, but uhhh, it's not looking too good. In this new Splatoon 3 DLC set, it seems as though the classic Splatoon 2 hub area has been
. . . bleached. Yet another set of challenging levels to grit your teeth through, this DLC looks like another set of fun challenges from the Splatoon devs that will probably just make us all cry tears of anger again (looking at you Girlpower Station). I love the Superhot/THX-1138 vibes of the levels and am intrigued to see where this DLC takes us!
Mario V.S. Donkey Kong
The last time M V. DK had seen the light of day was back in 2016 on the brick, so seeing this series come back was a genuine surprise. I'll admit, I've never even touched one of these games but it was such a double take reveal I just had to mention it here.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Another "Wait What?!" reveals, the Prince of Persia has returned with it's latests installment, The Lost Crown. Another series I'm not hugely familiar with, but still know the history of, it's exciting to see this classic Metroidvania series come back with what looks to be a baller game.
Super Mario RPG
Oh, to be back in the days when Square Soft and Nintendo weren't distant friends . . . Anyways, Super Mario RPG Remake. This was announced at the last direct, but for a game no one thought would ever see the light of day again, it's still monumental. Whether it's the fun story, the twist on Mario convention, or that one guy no one will shut up about, this game is brilliant and I am so excited to be able to play it for the first time!
Another Code: Recollection
I can say with complete confidence that I am all here for these DS click and point adventure games getting remasters and remakes on switch. Yeah it's only been two (Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective and now Another Code: Recollection), but like who cares? These games are brilliant and fun and I have nowhere near enough money to buy an original copy so getting these games on modern platforms is great!
Princess Peach Showtime!
So the last Princess Peach game (and the only other one) was on the DS and it WASN'T EVEN ABOUT HER! It was about some dumb parasol and his problems, so imagine my happiness learning that this Peach based game will (potentially) be a completely Princess Peach based adventure! She's onstage acting out a storm too, which is such a fun concept for her character, considering Nintendo loves putting her in different outfits all the time.
Tomb Raider I - III Remaster Starring Lara Croft
I have always wanted to play the original Tomb Raider, but to get a triple deal on a modern platform WITH VISUALS TOGGLES! This is a dream come true, so now I can explore ancient ruins with Lara Croft and her glorious polygonal form.
Detective Pikachu Returns
I have to admit, I only ever saw the Detective Pikachu movie, but I know the game is a wonderful title, even if Ryan Reynolds isn't Pikachu in it. To see a sequel to the series so awesome because the Pokemon company tends to easily bottleneck themselves with the same formula over. Delineation from said formula is always welcome, and I'm excited to see where this coffeholic Pikachu goes next!
F-Zero 99
It'll be a damn cold day in hell when Nintendo actually brings back F-Zero for us, but I guess a 99 battle royale isn't all that bad. I've only ever had the pleasure of playing the original SNES game, but it is a banger for sure, it never fails to entertain even if it's NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT HIT THE SIDES. Seeing the classic get a 99-ification isn't all too bad, it's a great way for new fans to see the series and old fans to complain, but hey, it's at least something (my heart goes out to the Mother series fans).
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Okay so maybe it really is a cold day in hell, because hot damn, Nintendo really decided that maybe boring samey Paper Mario wasn't going to get them as far as they wanted. Just like with Super Mario RPG, no one could've even imagined this, but to see it come to fruition is just incredible. I am so overjoyed to be able to play this game for the first time, and it's going to look stunning on modern hardware.
With all of these reveals, it really makes you wonder if Nintendo has their priorities on whats a "big game" all messed up, or if they're feeding us all this delicious content because their next generation console is coming soon? The rumors are just that, but it's never a bad thing to keep them in a back pocket or two. Either way, the past few Nintendo Directs have been absolute hits, and while it's not exactly what some fans may want, it's still something and you should be glad for that.

Top Highlight - F-Zero 99
Now, I'm one of those weirdos who thinks F-Zero will totally get another game. Someday. Maybe. Yeah, the F-Zero 99 reveal was a little disheartening, but it's a great sign for the future. Nintendo was willing to make something F-Zero related, and I do hope that this game gets a ton of new players so Nintendo decides that maybe having more than one racer won't kill them. Plus I love psychological torture and an F-Zero game where I can mess with other people just sounds like my cup of tea! I am super excited to see what F-Zero 99 brings to the table, and just what it means for the future!
